Connacht held this year’s first provincial blitz in Buccaneers RFC on Jan. 30th. Over 250 players from 14 clubs took part, with some clubs travelling from outside the province to take part. With flurries and cold weather forecast on the day, it was surely going to be an interesting blitz to say the least! U12’s and U10’s took to the pitches and played some great rugby, with the support of their coaches, parents, as well as Connacht Senior team players Edel McMahon and Emma Cleary acting as guest coaches on the day. Wendy Hickey, Connacht Womens’ Development Officer, was delighted with the event. “Connacht’s Girls Only mini section continues to grow and improve every year, which should lead to bigger and better success down the line. The 3 regions in the province have run numerous blitzes before Christmas, with more to come in the New Year. The provincial blitz allows teams to play different opposition, which keeps things interesting for the players and coaches alike. I would like to thank Buccaneers RFC for hosting the blitz, Smiths Supervalu in Monksland who were very generous in providing food and treats for all players, coaches and parents, and also to Mele Kiripati, Majella Murray, and all the volunteers from Buccaneers RFC who helped make this day a great success.”
