Ballygar and Ballina win girls schools rugby cups

Following the girls rugby blitzes that took place in North and South Connacht 2 weeks ago, it was Finals day in Tuam RFC. 5 Senior teams all played each other in a blitz format, and the Juniors were divided into 2 pools of three, with the top of each pool playing for the cup.

The Convent Ballina, Ballygar, Colaiste na Coiribe, Mercy Tuam, Clifden Community College and Mercy Sligo all took part in the Junior section. Ballygar and Ballina came out top of their pool, and after an exciting final, Ballygar came out victorious.

In the Senior section, The Convent Ballina, Seamount Kinvarra, Clifden Community College, Mercy Sligo and Ballygar all played each other, with Mercy Sligo and Ballina battling it out for the Senior cup. The game could have gone either way as both teams were playing some fantastic rugby, with Ballina beating Sligo by a point.

Many thanks to Tuam RFC for making their facilities available, and to all the schools that took part.
