Gort 15 12 Ballinasloe.

Ballinasloe got their senior league campaign off to a very disappointing start away to Gort on Sunday last. The visitors went into this game
on the back of a number of friendly wins in their pre season but all such good form went out the window early on. Gort were well up for this
game and played with a high level of intensity from the off. The fact that Ballinasloe had their opening league fixture against Carrick postponed
last week end did not help matters as there is no substitute for competitive fare. This however is no excuse for an under par performance and
Gort thoroughly deserved their win.
Despite their opening superiority Gort could only go in at the break 3pts to nil in front and the visitors were fortunate to be still in contention
at this stage of the proceedings. Gort continued from where they left off, in the second period, and raced into a 15pts lead by the 70th minute.
However, to their eternal credit, Ballinasloe never gave up and despite being on the back foot for much of the time fought manfully throughout.
This spirit was was rewarded in the closing stages when their old war horse Mark Harrigan got in for a hard earned try and they were also
awarded a penalty try for an obvious obstruction on a Ballinasloe player as he chased the ball over the try line. In a match that could have been
a rout for the visitors they were very happy to come away with a losing bonus point. This could prove to be a very important point at the leagues end.
