Students from the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology will face their counterparts from the National University of Ireland, Galway when the two sides meet in the Galway Colours Match in Crowley Park, Glenina next Monday (kick-off 14:00)
The resurrection of the historic fixture has been facilitated by Connacht Rugby’s Special Projects Officer Emer O’Dowd who said:
“The two teams met earlier in the season in the Student Sport Ireland league and it was a lively encounter by all accounts so everyone is really excited to see the rekindling of the longstanding rivalry in a formal Colours match.”
“Both of these institutions have a long and proud tradition of sport and rugby is no exception so this is shaping up to be a cracking game. Playing sport in third level education has been proven many times to help students overcome the pressures of exams and being able to facilitate that by reinstating the Colours Match give the students an opportunity to compete against their peers in a friendly and competitive way.”
