Last Saturday saw the inaugural U20 10-aside competition kick off at the superb facilities of Ballyhaunis RFC. Players from Ballinrobe, Buccaneers, Ballina and a Barbarian team from Ballyhaunis, Castlebar and members of the other squads competed in the blitz and after the round robin series of matches Buccaneers emerged victorious.August winners Buccaneers111

Speaking about the day Connacht Rugby’s Club Support Manager, Lyndon Jones said:

“We’re delighted with the spirit and enthusiasm that the teams have shown today. The cooperation and buy-in of the clubs is vital to the success of events such as this and for all the teams to put forward players to complete the Barbarian team shows the spirit of rugby is alive and well.

The U18 to U20 age bracket is one which we see a big drop off in participating numbers and it is hoped that blitzes such as this one will keep these players interested and involved in the sport and certainly the comradery and ethos showed by everyone here today bodes well for the future.”

“We are going to build on this event and we’ve another two further dates fixed (Saturday 24th September and Saturday 22nd October) in the calendar and we’re hoping to create an even bigger, better event with even more teams to competing.”
