Elvery’s Junior Development Cup Final

Gallen CS v Gortnor Abbey

Wednesday 26th March, 2pm, Sportsground

Gallen Community School face Gortnor Abbey from Crossmolina in the Junior Development Cup final. Both teams have had good seasons and will be up for this game. Gallen CS are the current holders of the Junior Development Cup, and will be looking to retain it again this year.

Gallen have been impressive this year, winning all three of their pool games including a comprehensive 45-3 win over St. Mary’s in Ballygar, and concluding with wins over Calasanctius Oranmore and Colaiste Iascaigh. Their semi final pitted them against pool A winners HRC Mountbellew, with Gallen overcoming them 11-5.

Gortnor Abbey were pitted against their cross town rivals St. Tiernan’s in the semi final in what was a good year for the traditional GAA town in the schools cup. First they had to overcome the challenges of St. Enda’s and St. Attracta’s in the first round. St. Attracta’s have rugby pedigree with Connacht hooker Sean Henry among their past pupils. Two comfortable wins for Gortnor Abbey managed to ease them through to the semi final stage, where they overcame their local rivals in a close fought 12-5 win.

Someone’s 100% record will go tomorrow, with both teams going all guns blazing for the title. It promises to be one to watch out for.
