Galwegians RFC stretched their lead at the top of division 1A last weekend with an impressive 49-13 win over Ballina at Crowley Park. The win means Galwegians sit seven points clear of their nearest rivals, Westport, in the league table. The other game played in the top tier of Connacht Junior rugby last weekend saw Connemara pick up a valuable home win against Buccaneers. The 22-15 win lifting Connemara up to sixth in the overall standings.
The stand out game in J1B saw the top two battle it out in Tuam. Tuam sat five points clear of their opponents, Creggs, going into the fixture but a fantastic performance from the away side saw them go level on points with the hosts. Both clubs now sit level on 24 points apiece in the table, although Creggs do have a game in hand. Elsewhere, Castlebar continued their good form with an 8-0 home win over Sligo to keep up their promotion push. The final match of the round saw Ballyhaunis and Loughrea battle it out in a close encounter which eventually ended in an 11-11 draw.
