Connacht Rugby, in conjunction with our partners BLK and INTERSPORT Elverys, are delighted to announce that sales from this year’s limited edition ‘Heroes’ jersey have raised €27,000 in funds for three worthy charities.
The unique jersey was the result of a special collaboration between the three organisations during the initial COVID-19 lockdown, with 100% of profits distributed evenly to ALONE, Galway Hospice and Mayo/Roscommon Hospice.
The BLK jersey went on sale at elverys.ie on 13th May and was completely sold out within 8 hours, such was the incredible response from the Connacht Rugby supporters and wider community.
It sports a unique design inspired by Superheroes, reminding us that they are not the only ones who wear capes and is our way of saying thank you to all Superheroes fighting every day to better the lives of the most vulnerable in our society.

“Galway Hospice were delighted to be associated with this unique lockdown fundraiser and are very grateful to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the funds raised. This unique fundraiser showed the commitment of all involved to do their best in supporting front line services during the Covid-19 pandemic. There is a strong bond between Galway Hospice and Connacht Rugby and we are extremely grateful to them all for their continued support. We are delighted that Connacht Rugby’s official charity partnership with Galway Hospice is extending and we look forward to continuing to work with the players and team in 2021.”
Martina Jennings, CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation says:
“We have been bowled over the support we have received from Connacht Rugby. The monies raised by the Heroes jersey is an incredible sum, but the awareness created by the jersey for Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation is also hugely important. The monies raised by the jersey go directly to funding palliative care services in the community and we are also progressing well with the build of our Roscommon Hospice, which will be completed in July 2021. We are also delighted that Connacht Rugby are extending their partnership up to the end of the season – we eagerly look forward to working with them over the next number of months and are honoured to be one of the chosen partners for such a prestigious sporting body.”
Meanwhile Connacht Rugby can also confirm that our Official Charity Partnership with Galway Hospice and Mayo/Roscommon Hospice has been extended up to the end of the 2020/21 season.
This partnership will see Connacht continue to work closely with the Hospices and, in lieu of physical visits at this time, the players and staff are exploring new ways to engage with hospice patients and staff in the lead-up to Christmas.
