Marist Colleges Rugby season came to a close on Wednesday evening last when an awards dinner was held to honour the great achievements of the teams over the last season. A most enjoyable night was had at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel sponsors of the Marist senior squad.

2012-13 was a very memorable and historic season for the College with the senior Cup team retaining both the Schools Senior League and Senior Cup and winning the inaugural 7’s. Not to be out done the Junior Cup team also secured the double with the Junior Cup and league and to  reassure us  that there is plenty of new talent been developed the first years also won their Schools Cup giving Marist a clean sweep of all the School Rugby titles a magnificent feat.

Guests on the night were Mr.Pat Lam (Connacht Rugby ) Robbie Henshaw, Jack Carty(past Pupils) along with family and friends of the players. Presentations were made to Pat Lam a former Marist Player with North harbour and Auckland RFC, to Jack Carty in recognition of his participation with the Irish U-20’s at the junior World Championships in South Africa last summer and Robbie Henshaw last season’s winning Captain in recognition of his season and his success since graduating from Marist College last year. The presentation were made to each player by Mr.Lam who then captured the audience when he spoke about the topic of leadership the qualities that make good leaders, how to achieve success and the importance of balance in one’s life. He spoke about how he’s was settling into life in Galway and how welcomed they have been made feel since their arrival.

Presentation was also made to Saba Meunargia who was awarded the Victor Ludorem Shield for his sporting achievements and he was also the recipient of the Good Conduct gold medal at the School awards ceremony the previous day. Saba was also presented with an award in recognition of his selection on the Ireland U-19’s team who played against France and England this year.

Connacht and Irish jerseys were then presented to Mr.Tom Blaine by Saba and Robbie Henshaw and further presentation and awards were made,
