The IRFU launched a Mental Health initiative in January 2014, which Connacht Rugby has embraced.  As part of this initiative, we are hosting a Mental Health Seminar in Connacht Rugby, which is aptly called “Mind Matters”.

Date: Monday, March 3rd 2014.

Registration: from 6.30pm

Seminar: 7pm – 9.30pm

Venue: Connacht Rugby Gym, the Sportsground, College Road, Galway.

Fee: €10

This seminar will consist of a presentation from Aidan O’Flynn MA. IACAT. Aidan currently works with the Connacht Academy in this field. He will focus on the psychological pressures and skills required to cope with today’s game from all sides, (parent, coach and player). As part of his presentation, he may ask for participation from all attendees in workshop format.

In addition to Aidan, Nigel Carolan, Connacht Rugby Academy Manager will present on the Individual Players Performance Plan.  He will discuss how coaching has drastically changed over the last few years and how the focus now is not only on the players playing ability but also on the players mental capacities and how he deals with this.

We open this Seminar up to all involved in sport, from a parent, coach and players perspective. We at Connacht Rugby cannot stress how important this area is and we hope that clubs avail of this fantastic opportunity.
