Girls Carrowholly Blitz a Roaring Success

Westport hosted this season’s second girls mini rugby blitz – Galwegians, Claremorris and Westport partaking in festivities.

About 50 youngsters across two age-groups tore about Carrowholly playing both tag and lep’ rugby.

WHblitz2811a_640x480Connacht Womens Community Rugby Officer Wendy Hickey was delighted with the improvement in skills from the last blitz at Galwegians’ Glenina a month ago. She has another earmarked before Christmas. “I’m rapt with the growth of the game at mini level. “Clubs are now putting together their own separate mini sections for girls which is, in my opinion, the way forward. I’m hoping more clubs will go down the same route and provide this facility, which in turn will grow the youths game in the future.” Anyone interested in girls’ rugby or setting up their own mini girls section in their club can contact [email protected]
