Initiative on the part of Kincon’s Mount Palmer National School promoted the Kilfian, County Mayo outpost to the lofty ranks of Connacht Rugby in December.

Mayo-based Club and Community Rugby Officer Paul Jennings adopted the new recruits and looks forward to watching them progress in the seasons to come.

“There’s no shortage of athletic talent up there at Mount Palmer, they’ll take to rugby like the proverbiall ducks to water,” he said. Hardly surprising, given Mayo was one among several counties lashed by recrod rainfall over the past eight weeks. The young Mount Palmer charges, no longer counting sleeps ’til Santa, are counting down now to their first interschool Lep’ Rugby blitz in Ballina.

And while fairly new to the Connacht Clann, Mount Palmer’s budding internationals have adopted Ronan Loughney and Gavin Duffy as their on-field favourites.
