Connacht lock Aly Muldowney has been named the Player of the Month for February in association with Hartmanns Jewellers  and Seiko Watches.

The 31-year-old was selected as one of three nominees by the management team for his impressive performances on the pitch and his hard work and commitment off it. He was then applauded across social media where he won over the majority of the votes from the Connacht Rugby supporters.

Muldowney, who has 39 caps to his name, started the two games last month away to both Scarlets and Newport Gwent Dragons and was heralded for his abrasive ball carrying and overall work rate.

The former basketball player has made rapid progress in the last two seasons with Connacht after joining the province from Exeter Chiefs. He has played in 17 games – starting 13 – so far this season and touched down for four tries in the PRO12.

Commenting on the February Player of the Month, assistant coach Dan McFarland said:

“Aly has made an outstanding contribution to the teams performances throughout January and February and fully deserves this recognition. His input and positive attitude both to the off-field preparation and training have seen him raise his match performance to a new level.”

Richard Hartmann, Director of Hartmann Jewellers added:

“Aly has been one of the most consistent and exciting players for Connacht this season and a name all supporters are very happy to see on the team sheet. He has been a crucial component in the team’s push for a top six finish and we wish him and the players all the best for the remaining games as they look to create some Connacht history.”
