Musgrave Park, Cork – Friday 7th September

Connacht U20’s began the defence of their interprovincial title last Friday night in Musgrave Park, Cork. The grand slam heroics of last season weren’t to be however as Young Munster’s Brian Haugh punished Connacht’s indiscipline and kicked three soft penalties in the first ten minutes. Galwegians Darragh Leader missed with a twenty fifth minute penalty and despite some positive passages of play it was Munster who crossed the whitewash first, Darren Sweetnam scoring five minutes before halftime to leave the score 14-0 at the break.

Darragh Leader scored, and converted two magnificent tries in the second half to level proceedings, the first just after half-time and the second after sixty two minutes. Middleton’s Rob Jermyn scored the decisive try for Munster with ten minutes to go and Brian Haugh’s conversion was to prove the final score in the match.
