The final pairings in this season’s Top Oil Schools Senior and Junior Cups will be known in the weeks ahead after the semi-final line-ups were confirmed in the past seven days.
In the Top Oil Schools Senior Cup six teams have been reduced to four after the pool stages were concluded earlier in the week. Reigning champions Garbally College finished top of Pool A after two wins from two, and standing in their way from a sixth final in seven years is Sligo Grammar School who saw off Marist College on Tuesday to clinch the last semi-final spot. Sligo will be looking to reach the final for the first time since 2014 when they dramatically saw off Garbally by a point after a replay to seal their 10th title.
The other semi-final sees CBS Roscommon looking to reach the Senior Cup final for the very first time, and they’ll have home advantage over The Jes (Colaiste Iognaid) with a place in the decider on Wednesday 13th March up for grabs. Both those last four ties will take place on the week of Monday 25th February with exact date and kick-off times to be confirmed.
Meanwhile in the Top Oil Schools Junior Cup, Garbally College and The Jes again look to be the teams to beat after a number of impressive victories in the pool stages. For a place in the final Garbally will host Marist College who took the runners-up spot in Pool B ahead of Sligo Grammar and Summerhill, while St Muiredachs are the fourth team involved in the semi-finals thanks to their win over CBS Roscommon to seal second place in Pool A. They face The Jes for a place in the decider, also on Wednesday 13th March.
