Bank of Ireland Cawley Cup Final Preview

25 September 2026

This Sunday, 27th September at 2:00 PM in Galwegians RFC, Ballina RFC and Connemara RFC battle it out for the coveted Bank of Ireland Cawley Cup in memory of the great Pat Cawley.

The Bank of Ireland Cawley and Curley Cups are perpetual cup competitions held annually in Galwegians RFC and Ballyhaunis RFC respectively in honour of the late Pat Cawley and Hugh Curley - both stalwarts of each club.

Ballina RFC are no strangers to the Bank of Ireland Cawley Cup Final having won the trophy last season in a very physical contest against previous winners Creggs RFC in wet and windy conditions. The cup was presented by Pat Cawley's wife, Mary after the match to Ballina captain Luke Sweeney.

Ballina will be looking to take home the trophy once again; "as defending champions, the Cawley Cup is a competition that means a huge amount to us as a group and as a club. We’re very proud to have the opportunity to contest another final, and the lads are really looking forward to the occasion and to representing Ballina RFC as well as we possibly can." Ed Gunning Team Manager and Mickey Murphy Head Coach.

However, they will need to overcome a hard battle against an impressive Connemara side who fended off Dunmore RFC 52-34 in their Semi-Final to claim the other spot in the final this Sunday. Having last won the Cawley Cup back in the 2022/23 season, they will be feeling that this victory is long overdue.

"We are looking forward to a fast paced and physical game against old rivals Ballina. We are also excited to be in with an opportunity to win silverware so early in the season." Ethan Griffiths, Connemara RFC Captain.

Be sure to come down to Crowley Park (Galwegians RFC) this Sunday at 2:00 PM!
