This Sunday, 16th March sees a triple header in Creggs RFC starting with the Bank of Ireland Women’s Senior Plate Final at 11:00 AM followed by the Women’s Senior Cup Final at 1:30 PM and the Men's Senior Cup Final at 4:00 PM.
With the work still ongoing in Dexcom Stadium, this Sunday's triple header will be held in Creggs RFC. The first final of the day is the Bank of Ireland Women’s Senior Plate Final which will see newly amalgamated OLBC/Corinthians RFC take on last year's Cup finalists University of Galway RFC. These two teams first met in Round 5 of the Bank of Ireland Women's Senior League where OLBC/Corinthians travelled up the road to Dangan. On this occasion, OLBC/Corinthians took the win. Almost neck in neck on the Senior League table, both teams have continued to go from strength to strength into the Plate competition with OLBC/Corinthians sealing their place in the Final with a 1 point win over Ballinrobe RFC in a thrilling away Semi-Final while University of Galway bested newly formed Southeast Galway Warriors with a 5 point victory at home to see them get their rematch against OLBC/Corinthians in the Final. It's either team's trophy to win as these two evenly-matched sides face off in Creggs this coming Sunday. A proper Galway City showdown, this is sure to be an electric match not to be missed. The Bank of Ireland Women’s Senior Plate Final is at 11:00 AM on Sun, 16th March in Creggs RFC.
The second final of the day will see reigning champions Tuam/Oughterard Colts take on Sligo Rugby in the Bank of Ireland Women’s Cup Final. Both teams have had a strong season with Tuam/Oughterard Colts taking home the Bank of Ireland Women's Senior League trophy for a third year in a row after a great match against Creggs RFC in the final at Castlebar RFC. They went on to win their Cup Quarter-Final agaisnt Ballinrobe RFC and then their Semi-Final against last year's Plate winners Westport RFC to ensure they would have another chance to add to their silverware in the Women's Senior Cup Final. Meanwhile, Sligo have had an almost perfect run in the Senior League, only losing to Creggs RFC in their Semi-Final before decisively winnign their Quarter-Final against OLBC/Corinthians and Semi-Final rematch against Creggs RFC. Interestingly, Tuam/Oughterard's only loss of the season so far was against Sligo themselves who came away in the Round 1 refix with a thrilling 2-point win at home. No doubt both teams will want to come out on top in the upcoming Women's Cup Final in Creggs RFC. With the two sides not having met since that Round 1 refixed match of the Women’s Senior League, they will surely be excited for a rematch on the big stage. The Bank of Ireland Women’s Senior Cup Final is at 1:30 PM in Creggs RFC and will be live streamed. Find more information and purchase the stream here.
The third, and last, final of the day is the coveted Men's Senior Cup Final which will see last year's winners, Sligo Rugby take on Galwegians RFC. No strangers to each other, both teams compete in the Energia Division 2B of the AIL where they last faced off in mid-January when Galwegians got a home victory over the Sligo side. Both teams finished top two in the Bank of Ireland Senior League earlier in the season where they met in Round 2 at the end of August. On this occasion, it was the Sligo home side who edged out Galwegians with a 36-34 win. Having seen close scorelines in all of their Senior League matches, there is no clear winner between the two sides and it's certain to be an action-packed Final in Creggs RFC. The Bank of Ireland Men's Senior Cup Final is at 4:00 PM in Creggs RFC and will be live streamed. Find more information and purchase the stream here.
