Bank of Ireland Club Finals Preview

This Sunday, 27th April sees the final day of Cup finals for the season with a triple-header in Creggs RFC starting with the Bank of Ireland U13 Boys Cup Final at 11:00 AM followed by the Bank of Ireland U15 Boys Cup Final at 1:00 PM and the Bank of Ireland U17 Boys Cup Final at 3:00 PM.

The first match in Sunday's triple-header is the Bank of Ireland U13 Boys Cup Final at 11:00 AM which will see 2023 Bank of Ireland U13 Cup Champions Ballina RFC face off against Sligo Rugby. Both teams got a taste of Youth Rugby earlier in the season with the U13 Non-Competitive league which was a great way to ease them into the post-Minis structure before the Cup. Ballina and Sligo played each other in this Non-Competitive League as they were drawn into the same pool, so they will have an idea of their opposition for Sunday's final. In the Cup campaign, Sligo went into Pool C while Ballina went into Pool D. Both teams recorded clean win records, pushing them on to Semi-Finals. Ballina had the task of overcoming Ballinasloe RFC in their Semi-Final while Sligo faced Corinthians Black. Both teams showed their skill and drive, with Ballina claiming their spot in the Final with a 45-14 win and Sligo storming past Corinthians 26-0 to seal their spot as well. The future is bright for both of these sides and it's either team's cup to win. The Bank of Ireland U13 Boys Cup Final is at 11:00 AM on Sun, 27th April in Creggs RFC.

The second match is the Bank of Ireland U15 Boys Cup Final at 1:00 PM which sees a proper Galway City derby with Corinthians RFC and Galwegians RFC taking to the pitch. Only up the road from one another, these two sides will both be looking to bring the trophy back to the City. Corinthians are no strangers to the Bank of Ireland U15 Boys Cup Final - they won the trophy last year against Sligo Rugby and will be aiming to retain their champion status. The two sides got an early glimpse at each other in Round 5 of the Bank of Ireland U15 League where it was Corinthians that stormed to victory on that occasion. Corinthians continued to grow and ended up winning the League final 25-12 against Creggs RFC. Galwegians had a slower start, seeing them fall on the table in the League, but winning their Seeding Playoff in a close match against Westport RFC. They turned things around in their Cup campaign and recorded a clean win record including in their first pool match against the League runners-up Creggs. Continuing to grow as the campaign went on, Galwegians sealed their Cup Final spot with an emphatic 44-17 win over Monivea RFC. Corinthians also topped their pool table with some impressive performances, leading them to face Corrib RFC in the Cup Semi-Final where they overcame the home side 26-17 to ensure they would be heading up to Creggs this Sunday. Sure to be an epic match against the two Galway sides, this final is not to be missed. The Bank of Ireland U15 Boys Cup Final is at 1:00 PM on Sun, 27th April in Creggs RFC.

The last final of the day is the Bank of Ireland U17 Boys Cup Final which sees two teams who are no strangers to each other in Cup finals - Buccaneers RFC and Creggs RFC. Coming off of a Cup Final win in the Bank of Ireland U16 Cup final last year, an U15 Cup final win in 2023 and an U14 Cup final win in 2022, Buccaneers will be looking to keep that momentum going into the U17 Cup final this Sunday. These two sides met in that 2023 Bank of Ireland U15 Cup Final where Buccaneers were able to edge out Creggs on that occasion, so Creggs will be looking to change the course for this year's Bank of Ireland U17 final. Buccaneers flew into the Div 1 League Final where they won 19-16 over a strong Corinthians side. Creggs unfortunately missed out on a playoff spot in the League which only spurred them on into their Cup Campaign where they looked to make their mark. And they did just that seeing themselves into a Cup Semi-Final against a strong Galwegians RFC side. Creggs ended up with a 32-26 victory and a place in the Bank of Ireland U17 Cup Final. Buccaneers faced tougher opponents in the Cup and just narrowly sealed their place in the Cup Final after a 1 point victory over Galway Bay RFC in their Cup Semi-Final. Nonetheless, the Athlone side will be heading to Creggs this Sunday to face the home side. The Bank of Ireland U17 Boys Cup Final is at 3:00 PM on Sun, 27th April in Creggs RFC.
