The Connacht Eagles ran in five tries to secure an impressive bonus point win over Munster ‘A’ at a sunny Sportsground in the Celtic Cup. A try three minutes from time from replacement Diarmuid Kilgallen sealed the victory, meaning it’s now 3 wins from 4 in this year’s campaign for the Westerners.
The visitors started the better and led 20-14 at the break thanks to tries from Jonathan Wren and Ben Healy who also slotted over two penalties in the opening quarter. Munster’s lead was 13 points at one stage before Connacht’s Stephen Kerins scored his second try in the last play of the break, with the scrum-half also getting their opening try after 25 minutes.
The Eagles dominated the exchanges in the 3rd quarter with Sean Masterson and Niall Murray both touching down to bring them 28-20 ahead. Wren reduced the gap to just a single point before his second try before the Eagles sealed the win with 10 points in the last 10 minutes.
Both fly-halves impressed with Conor Dean and Ben Healy nailing all five of their placed kicks while the Connacht set-piece began to dominate as the match went on. Next weekend sees the Eagles host Scarlets A at Corinthians RFC while Munster face Cardiff Blues A.
