Connacht Blitzes For Sligo & Athlone Students
The Connacht Rugby Club and Community Department have been extremely busy in recent weeks with events taking place across the province.

Club and Community Rugby Officer Carl van Rensburg co-ordinated a blitz at Sligo RFC for sixth class pupils from the surrounding schools with 90 young players taking part.

Geevagh National School, Strandhill National School, Ransboro National School and Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré all fielded mixed teams with the event proving a huge success. Scoil Ursula have also been involved in rugby sessions but, unfortunately, were unable to attend on the day.

Carl has been introducing rugby into all five schools and the aim of the blitz was to give the young boys and girls the opportunity to play some games and have a fun day out.

Connacht Rugby would like to thank all of the schools involved and their teachers for facilitating the event.

Connacht Rugby Coach Development Officer Charlie Couper, along with Club & Community Rugby Officers Will Thornton and Peter O'Hara, recently ran a 10-a-sdie blitz for first year students at Dubarry Park, Athlone.

Eleven teams from Garbally College, St Mary's Ballygar, St Aloysious, Gallen Community School, Athenry Vocational School, Roscommon CBS and Marist College took part with 145 players involved in the huge event.

It was the third blitz that Connacht Rugby have run for the students this year with another event planned before the Easter break.

Connacht Rugby would like to thank Buccaneers for providing their facilities, all of the coaches who prepared their teams, and everyone who refereed throughout the day.

Connacht Rugby will be holding Easter Camps in  Castlebar RFC (April 11-13),  NUIG RFC in Dangan Sports Campus (April 11-13) and Loughrea RFC (April 18-20). Places are still available and you can book here.
