Ballina defeated Connemara

Ballina beat Connemara 12-10 in the big game at the top of J1A with a number of fixtures postponed due to the inclement weather.

Hosts Connemara led 10-0 at the interval but Ballina stormed back to claim a dramatic 12-10 victory. Daniel Molloy and Calum Quinn were the try-scorers as Darragh Whyte kicked the crucial conversion in the dying minutes with a full report on the Ballina website here. The victory sees Ballina move six points clear at the top of J1A with just two games remaining.

Basement side NUIG had to settle for a losing bonus point as they were beaten 21-17 by Monivea. Westport and Buccaneers drew 5-all as Buccs edged closer to safety with the Galwegians v Ballinasloe game postponed.

Only two games were played in J1B at the weekend as Ballyhaunis’ relegation was confirmed as they fell to a 24-3 defeat in Sligo as the hosts remain firmly in the mix for the title.

Leaders Corinthians beat Tuam 24-17 on Friday night to stay top of the table with Sligo breathing down their necks.

All three games in J1C were postponed due to the weather.

There was no action in the J2 League at the weekend with the following semi-finals taking place next Sunday at 2.30pm: OLBC v Ballina; Oughterard v Corinthians.
