Wednesday is Connacht Schools’ Senior Cup final day at The Sportsground.
The Senior A Cup will be contested between reigning champions, Sligo Grammar, and a surging Marist College who overcame a massive semi-final tussle to reach the decider.
Grammar’s form in this season’s tournament has been extraordinary, overcoming all challenges along the way, including their final opponents in the pool stage.
For the Marist, it hasn’t been as easy, bouncing back from that pool stage loss to overcome Summerhill in one of the games of the year in the semi-final. That kind of battle will stand to the team from Athlone as they yet again try to get the better of Grammar.
The Senior B Cup final puts together another two sides that met in the pool stages, with Athlone Community College and St Joseph’s College (The Bish) reacquainting themselves with each other on The Sportsground’s all-weather surface.
In this case, it was the team from Athlone who got the better of the pool stage game, with Athlone CC winning 29-20. However, The Bish showed plenty of attacking prowess that day and will have plenty of optimism going into the decider.
The Senior C Cup final kicks action off on the day, with Coláiste Bhaile Chláir and Sancta Maria College doing the honours. Both teams go into the final with confidence at a high after 100 percent records in this year’s Senior Cup.
That game kicks off at 11am. It is followed by the Senior A Cup at 1.30pm, while the Senior B final starts at 4pm.
