Ard na Cregg Cup Final
Corinthians 29-0 OLBC
Match report courtesy of John Mulligan, Corinthians RFC
History was made last Thursday night when the Corinthians Thirds completed the double of league and cup by overcoming Our Ladies Boys Club at Corinthian Park in the Ard na Cregg Cup final. The 29-0 scoreline told a story of dominance from the start and the management team of Shane Maher and Colm Conway can be truly proud of this team’s achievements in which they also won the Connacht J2 League last March.
From the start the intent was to get on the board early and this happened from a line out that went through the phases before going to Paddy Long who sold a clever dummy before going over in the corner. Try number two came from a move that started inside the Corinthians 22’ that was kicked back by the Boys Club Full Back. Following an outstanding break back, the ball came to Stephen O’Reilly who burst through the cover and several tackles to get the score.
Corinthians’ third try would come from a scrum that would see Declan Loughnane touchdown following a lung bursting run up the centre and pass to the winger but it was also a bitter sweet moment as during the build up to the play, centre Warren Beattie picked up a head injury that required treatment and hospitalisation all in Corinthians RFC wish him well in his recovery.
Corinthians would lead 24-0 at Half time with the extras coming from the boot of Paddy Long and as the second half progressed there would be one further score that would seal victory and the double. It came from Stephen O’Reilly who collected from a Corinthians Line out to drive over the line.
It has been a truly outstanding season from the thirds perspective and with a welcome break for the summer, already thoughts are turning towards the 2017/18 season.
