For the first time since they've been in the competition, Creggs RFC have made it to the Energia All-Ireland Junior Cup Semi-Final which is taking place this Saturday, 13th December at 2:30 PM against Dromore in Creggs RFC.
A semi-final in this competition has never come easy for Creggs. Since the 2018-19 season, they have competed in every edition for this famed trophy, only to fall at the first round hurdle every time.
That all changed this season when they defeated Kilfeacle & District in the opening round and St. Mary's in the quarterfinals. Now they face a new tough challenge in Dromore RFC. Creggs have a lot of rugby played this season, and will hope their experience can play its part in getting them to the finals stage.
Creggs coach Michael Diffley says, "We have had difficulties with consistency this season and we have been working on getting a more connected performance and progress in this competition. Our players have applied themselves very well on big occasions in the past but hosting an all Ireland semi final on our own pitch will make for a huge occasion and I have no doubt our players will rise to the occasion."
Creggs faced Kilfeacle & District in the opening round of 16 at home where they came away with a 25-15 win over the visitors. In their quarterfinal, they travelled to Grove Island to face St. Mary's RFC where they scored ten tries and with a convincing scoreline of 60-28, they sealed their semi-final place.
