David Hawkshaw has been getting plenty of game time since making the move West this summer and will hope to continue that this Friday as Connacht take on the Scarlets in Round 6 of the BKT United Rugby Championship at The Sportsground, (7.35pm)
Last Friday David came up against his former teammates when Leinster left Galway with a with a 10-0 win. Hawkshaw spoke to media this week about the defeat.
“We were disappointed with the result last Friday”
“We were happy with parts of our game and how we played but not getting scores on the board was disappointing, especially because we felt we were in the game and really putting it up to them”
David wasn’t the only former Leinster man coming up against former colleagues, Josh Murphy and Peter Dooley also had to prepare themselves against their former club.
“The one thing in my head going into the game was how big of a challenge it was and how much we needed to get right” Hawkshaw said
“I stayed away from overthinking too much about it being Leinster and me previously playing with them”
“Sometimes players can overthink that whole thing which can have a negative impact on their game”
Its the challenge of the Scarlets this Friday that awaits where you can get your tickets right HERE
“Scarlets will provide a different challenge and one we know we have to be ready for because this is just as big as the other five games we’ve played” said Hawkshaw
“They have a backline that’s really dangerous”
“We know we need good results now ”
With one win in five matches Hawkshaw spoke about the mood in the camp coming into Friday’s match.
“Frustration is probably the biggest one”
“We believe in what we’re doing its just we aren’t accurate enough at the moment when in the opposition 22”
“Things take time but we know the business we’re in and results are now top of the list”
Since joining Connacht in the summer coaches and players have been impressed with how well Hawkshaw has settled in with the group but how is he finding life in Galway?
“I’m loving it”
“Myself and my brother moved up here and everyone has been great to us”
“Galway is a great place to live as well”
“In training I’m learning each day off the likes of Jack Carty, Conor Fitzgerald, Tom Daly and Tom Farrell which is great to help me improve my game”
