Fergus Farrell Walk Across America For Spinal Injuries Ireland

Fergus Farrell — a man told he would never walk again — is walking across the entire United States to prove that resilience has no limits. Brooklyn Bridge to Santa Monica Pier. August to November 2026.

The Fergus Walks campaign will see former Gawlegians and Connacht Rugby player Fergus 'Gussie' Farrell take on an extraordinary journey across the United States, walking over 4,500 kilometres from New York to Los Angeles. This historic undertaking will see Fergus become the first person with a spinal cord injury ever to complete such a walk across America and the first Irishman to do so in over a century.

Over 75 consecutive days, he will cover the equivalent of a marathon and a half each day, pushing both his body and mind to their absolute limits. This challenge comes just a few years after being told Fergus had only a 5% chance of ever walking again following a spinal cord injury.

This journey is about more than distance. It is about raising vital funds and awareness for Spinal Injuries Ireland, supporting people who are rebuilding their lives after injury. Through peer support, advocacy, and community services, their work creates real and lasting change for individuals and families across the country.
