Tuam RFC’s John Carr was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by Connacht Rugby’s President, Michael O’Hehir, and Chairperson of the Board, John Power, at the recent Club & Community Forum held in Galway.
The certificate was in acknowledgement of Johns outstanding excellence, contribution and dedication to rugby in Connacht.
John has been central to the running of rugby across Connacht for many years, joining the Adult Competitions Committee in 2009 and chairing that committee from 2010 up to the present day. This demanding role involves engaging with clubs, players and stakeholders across the province and John has successfully led the committee though many challenges, including the Covid pandemic and the disruption it caused to sport across the country.
John is a past president of Connacht Rugby, recipient of the prestigious Mr Boots Award for volunteering and picked up the IRFU Spirit Of Rugby Volunteer Award 2022/23. John serves as Deputy Chief Steward and is one of the longest serving matchday volunteers in the Sportsground. John is a stalwart of Tuam RFC and is currently the head groundsman of Garraun Park.
In addition to the Certificate of Appreciation, CEO Willie Ruane added:
“John has been at the beating heart of rugby in Connacht for many years and this certificate pays tribute to his outstanding contribution. The true value of volunteers such as John can be seen in the growth of virtually every aspect of rugby across the province and this token of our appreciation recognises that dedication.”
