This Wednesday, 19th March sees a double header in Ballina RFC starting with the Junior B Boys Schools Cup Final at 11:30 AM followed by the Junior A Boys Schools Cup Final at 2:30 PM.
With the work still ongoing in Dexcom Stadium, this Wednesday's schools double header will be held in Ballina RFC. The first final of the day is the Junior B Boys Schools Cup Final which will see last year's champions, Presentation Athenry face off against a strong Rice College Westport side who will be looking to dethrone the reigning champs. With their Senior team having made the Senior B Cup Final last week, Presentation College Athenry has shown they are a consistently strong school when it comes to rugby. They made it to the Junior B League Semi-Final where they faced Rice College, losing by only 1 point in an incredibly tight match. Since then, they have come back stronger, storming through their Junior B Cup campaign with big wins over St. Jarlath's and Athlone CC as well as a 29-12 Semi-Final win over Coláiste Bhaile Chláir to see them into the final for a rematch against the Westport side. Rice College have had an incredibly impressive year in their rugby teams' performances with their U14 Boys making their Cup Final in the coming weeks as well. Rice College recorded a completely clean slate in their Junior B League campaign, seeing wins in all of their rounds as well as their Semi-Final which saw them face Dunmore CS in the League final back in December. Following on their success in the league, Rice College then went on to produce wins in all of their Cup matches and their Cup Semi-Final against St. Jarlath's meaning they had solidified their place in the Final. With two young and energetic sides facing off, the Junior B Boys Schools Cup Final is sure to be absolutely electric. The Junior B Boys Schools Cup Final is at 11:30 AM on Wed, 19th March in Ballina RFC.
The second final of the day will see another rematch of the Marist College Athlone and Sligo Grammar sides - a familiar trend in schools rugby! Last year's Junior A League and Cup champions Marist have now added the Senior A Cup to their collection and will no doubt be looking to keep the Junior A Cup in Athlone. Marist started their Junior A League campaign with a draw against CBS Roscommon before putting their foot on the gas and getting wins against St. Muredach's and Summerhill. This meant they had to face Sligo Grammar in the Semi-Final of the League - the sides were so well-matched that it ended in a draw meaning a replay where Sligo Grammar took the win on the second occasion with a 25-3 scoreline. Sligo Grammar meanwhile began with a loss to St. Joseph's College but then also went on to record big wins against Garbally and Coláiste Iognáid. After overcoming Marist in their Semi-Final replay, Sligo Grammar went on to win the League Final in a rematch against St. Joseph's College where they made no mistake in taking the win 24-20. In a turn of events, Marist and Sligo Grammar both ended up in Pool B of the Cup where Marist's only loss was a 12-8 one to Sligo Grammar. However, both sides were determined to clinch the spots in the Final and both won their Semi-Finals with Sligo Grammar beating St. Joseph's yet again and Marist overcoming CBS Roscommon 15-10 this time around. Everyone loves a good rematch and the Junior A Boys Schools Cup Final between Marist College and Sligo Grammar will not disappoint.
