Junior and Senior A Schools League Finals Preview

The first final of a thrilling double-header is the Junior A Boys’ Schools League Final which will see St. Joseph’s College (The Bish) take on Sligo Grammar School in what is sure to be a great contest. This match will be reminiscent of 4th December, 2024 where the two sides faced off in the Junior A League final last season in Creggs RFC where Sligo Grammar were able to just edge out the Galway Side with a 24-20 scoreline. St. Joseph's College experienced a similar close loss in the League final back in the 2021/22 season to Marist College and have been Junior Schools Cup finalists the last 4 or 5 years in a row so will be hoping that this can be the year they can raise the League trophy. 

Sligo Grammar will be looking to retain the trophy after the last two seasons of success in the Junior A League Final with a few tight matches the last couple of finals against Marist College and then most recently St. Joseph's College where Sligo took the trophy on that occasion. They've proven they're a hard team to beat and are no strangers to a final. 

Both teams have topped their respective tables in the Junior A League this season with St. Joseph's College recording impressive victories in their pool games and then overcoming a strong CBS Roscommon side in their Semi-Final with a 26-17 win in Dangan. Similarly, Sligo Grammar convincingly stormed through their pool games and into a home Semi-Final against Coláiste Éinde where they sealed their place in the final with a 34-0 win.

Sure to be an electric final not to be missed, the Junior A Boys’ Schools League Final is at 12:00 PM on Wed, 26th November in Creggs RFC.

The second final of a thrilling double-header is the Senior A Boys’ Schools League Final which will see Marist College Athlone take on Sligo Grammar School in what is sure to be a great contest. These two sides are no strangers to each other at the Senior level with Marist College having overthrown the Sligo Grammar side in the Senior A League and the Cup last season to win the Senior A Cup for the first time in 13 years.

Both teams have had their eyes on the prize this season, topping their tables in the League with Marist College overcoming Clonfert College, Coláiste Iognáid, St Muredachs College and Summerhill College and in the other pool, Sligo Grammar were victorious over CBS Roscommon, Coláiste Éinde and St. Joseph's College. With both teams topping their groups, they each saw the benefits of a home Semi-Final. Marist College welcomed CBS Roscommon to Athlone while St. Muredachs College travelled over to Sligo to face Sligo Grammar. Both Marist College and Sligo Grammar came out with convincing wins, sealing their spots against one another yet again in another Senior A League final.
