This Saturday the Connacht Women's team get their Vodafone Interprovincial Championship underway as they welcome Leinster to The Sportsground, kick-off is 5:15pm.
There are plenty of new faces in this Connacht squad to the one that played back in January's Championship. Fiona Scally, Laura Feely, Mairead Coyne and Mary Healy have all retired so this is a new chapter for the squad and one Head Coach Lyndon Jones is very excited about.
"We started training back on June 21st and the commitment level has been there to see from everyone, the players are travelling from all over the country and everytime they've arrived to training they've given everything"
"We had a squad building day back in July so the team have gelled very well over these last number of weeks"
"As a squad and management team we just want to get playing matches now"
Nicole Fowley will lead out the squad for the very first time as Captain this weekend. Lyndon told us why he named the Sligo native as Captain.
"First of all she's a brilliant player"
"She is one of our most experienced players, she's played in a number of Interprovincial Championships so she knows what they are all about"
"She leads by example on and off the field and she has the right words at the right time"
"She knows the standards needed for these Championships and she's really good with her communication with the players"
Its an opening round fixture against Leinster who make the trip West to Galway this Saturday.
"We're expecting a massive challenge from Leinster" said Jones
"They're a good side but this is what we train for, these type of games playing quality oppositon"
"There's massive confidence within this squad heading into Saturday"
