Monivea RFC New Clubhouse Opening Ceremony

Monivea RFC will be officially opening their new clubhouse on the 29th of August beginning at 12:00 PM at the club grounds. 

This official opening of our their clubhouse and spectator stand marks a significant milestone in the proud history of Monivea RFC. It is also a special moment for the many committee members and volunteers whose dedication, commitment, and hard work helped make this achievement possible.

As Chairperson of the club, Enda Keehan will be welcoming Tony O’Beirne, President of the Irish Rugby Football Union and Tom Horkan, Connacht President who will be there on the day to officially open the new facilities.

These new facilities represent a lasting investment in the future of Monivea RFC. They will provide a welcoming home for their players, members, and visitors, while supporting the continued growth of rugby within the club and the wider community for generations to come.

Monivea Chairperson Enda Keehan says, "on behalf of everyone in Monivea RFC, I would like to sincerely thank the current committee and the previous committee, led by Shelly Herterich Quinn, who initiated, led, and managed the clubhouse build over recent years. I would also like to acknowledge the many volunteers who gave their valuable time and expertise, whether through direct labour on site or through essential administration work behind the scenes. Every committee member involved in managing the club is a volunteer, and many fulfil multiple roles across club administration, coaching, and team management". 

Monivea are deeply grateful to the Sports Capital Programme and the IRFU for the significant grant funding that helped them realise their dream of a new clubhouse.

"I would also like to give special thanks to Anthony Killarney for financially backing the club throughout the clubhouse build, and to our many clubs sponsors whose support helped bring this vision to reality," says Keehan.

Looking to the future, Monivea are delighted to share that in July of this year the club successfully received further planning permission from Galway County Council. This approval allows for the development of a mini astro pitch, an additional seated spectator stand, and a second level on the clubhouse to accommodate a gym. 

Looking towards the opening day, Keehan says, "as we celebrate today, we also remember those who laid the foundations of Monivea RFC and acknowledge the generations whose efforts have brought us to this point. We are proud of our past, excited for our future, and committed to ensuring that Monivea RFC continues to thrive for many years to come. Thank you for joining us to celebrate this landmark occasion.
