After an opening round win in the BKT United Rugby Championship over Ospreys, Connacht now turn their attention to Glasgow this Saturday at The Sportsground for round 2. (k/o 3pm).
Head Coach Pete Wilkins got his reign in charge off to a winning start and he sat down in front of media where he was asked about the squad and if there are any injury concerns ahead of this Saturday.
"Jack Carty got that nasty facial laceration, he went off to hospital after the game and got that fixed up, there's a good chance he will miss a week or two" said Wilkins.
"We will assess his progress over the next couple of days"
"He's probably the ony major concern coming out of that game against Ospreys"
Round 1 saw six players make their debut for Connacht along with a three new additions to the coaching staff. Pete was pleased with that winning start.
"I said it to the coaches and will say it to the players, it was super important for us to win"
"It was also super important not just to get that bonus point win, but to show some glimpses of what we want to be about this season"
"We know it wasn't perfect but there was enough snap shots of what we are trying to do"
Having finished the 2022/23 season as top try scorer for Connacht, Caolin Blade continued his scoring form into this season with a hat-trick on the opening weekend. The Monivea man also captained the side and Pete was pleased to see him put in that performance in the first week.
"A first half hat-trick grabs the headlines and I think it is well deserved"
"I thought he played really well during his time on the field"
"He brings so much energy to the group and so much energy to the game"
"I'm seeing a player that seems to be getting better and better"
Scottish side Glasgow are the next side to come west and they do so on the back of a good win over Leinster on Sunday.
"I think Glasgow will be looking to kick on from last season when they reached the last eight"
"They had plenty of Scottish internationals back for that game against Leinster which I think shows the intent they have for this season"
"You know when you play Glasgow you are playing against fifteen international players so we are approaching this game with so much respect"
"It will be a different challenge to Ospreys so we need to make sure we're ready for it"
The Connacht team for Saturday will be named on Friday. Tickets for the game can be got here.
