PREVIEW: Bank of Ireland Boys Cup Finals

This Sunday will see a triple header of top-class rugby take place in the Sportsground with the Bank of Ireland Connacht Boys Cup finals. With three finals taking place at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM it’s a day not to be missed.

The first of the three finals is the U16 Boys Cup Final which will see Loughrea RFC take on Buccaneers RFC. After a successful Cup campaign so far, Loughrea overcame a strong Sligo RFC side in their thriller of a semi-final on the 15th of April which saw the game level at full-time. Buccaneers stormed through their early Cup matches and met Creggs RFC in their semi-final at home on the 12th. In their closest contest of the Cup, Buccaneers came out on top with a nail-biting 17-14 win to see them through to the final. The Bank of Ireland U16 Boys Cup Final is at 11:00 AM in the Sportsground.

The second final of the day sees Sligo RFC vs Corinthians Black in the U14 Boys Cup. After a convincing Cup campaign, Sligo beat Corinthians Blue by a mere try in their home semi-final on the 8th of April. This 12-7 win sees them take on Corinthians Blue’s counterparts in the long-awaited final. Corinthians Black have impressed in their U14 Cup games to-date and picked up steam as they triumphed over Westport 35-14 in their away semi-final on the 7th. The Bank of Ireland U14 Boys Cup Final is at 1:00 PM in the Sportsground.

The last final of the day will see Buccaneers RFC take on Sligo RFC in the U18.5 Boys Cup. This is sure to be a hotly contested a game with two incredibly strong sides battling it out. Buccaneers gained momentum after their first win in the Cup and capitalised on their performances with a 24-14 home semi-final win against a strong Corinthians side on the 16th. Sligo began the Cup with a big couple of wins culminating in their away semi-final against Monivea on the 15th where they came away with a 33-15 win over the home side.  The Bank of Ireland U18.5 Boys Cup Final is at 3:00 PM in the Sportsground.
