Sean Jansen is into his second season at the club having joined in the summer of 2023/24 from Leicester Tigers. The big back rower was part of the Emerging Ireland squad back in October and hopes to keep on developing his game further after that spell.
Sean spoke about the start to the season that the team have had.
"It's been a good start, obvisouly there were a couple of games that could have gone our way but we managed to come away from them with something, I don't think we would have done that last season"
"We're happy but we need to put the foot down now becuase its that time of the year where you can see yourself slipping down the table where you give yourself extra work and pressure in that next part of the season"
The break period from games has given Pete Wilkins and his coaching team the chance to work on some drills in more detail that they may not get the chance to when the games come week by week.
"We've worked on little stuff in our game that we wouldn't usually get a chance to committe a hugh amount of time to when you have a game week after week"
"Little bits of details might not sound like a lot but we've done a lot of hard work around it and hopefully we can repeat it on match day"
Last season was a bit of a frustrating one for Sean, a few injuries saw him miss out on parts of the season where he would have liked to keep building on his game. This season though he is feeling a lot better in his body and hopes to play a big part in the rest of the season.
"I'd play maybe one or two games last season and then I would be out for a while which isn't what any player wants"
"This season I've been able to put a lot of games back-to-back"
"I have a good plan in place with the S&C team which is great, something that I may not have been doing before and that's not to say I wasn't workig hard before, I just have a better understanding of what I need to do in the prep"
Saturday is expected to be a big physical encounter with the South African's coming to Dexcom Stadium, a type of game that Jansen loves to play in.
"For us as a forward pack its the best challenge we would want to restart the season"
"For me personally I love these physical types of games and the prep involved for them"
