The playoff stage for the Senior A Boys Schools Semi Finals has been set. Marist College will welcome Coláiste Éinde tomorrow, 5th March at 12:30 while Sligo Grammar travel to Garbally College on Thursday, 6th March at 1:00 PM.
Coláiste Iognáid (The Jes) travelled across Galway City to Coláiste Éinde in Salthill on Wednesday, the 26th February for the last of the Senior A Boys Schools Quarter-Finals. In a physical match, it was the home side of Coláiste Éinde that booked their place in the second Semi-Final against Marist College with a 32-17 win.
This Quarter-Final win by Coláiste Éinde solidified the Semi-Finals of the Senior A Boys Schools Cup competition for this season. Garbally College will welcome last year's Cup winners Sligo Grammar to Ballinasloe while Coláiste Éinde will travel to Athlone to face last year's Cup runners-up Marist College.
Marist College have had a great run with a clean slate in both the League and the Cup, a run that bodes well for their Cup winning chances. Their tightest match this season was against last year's finalists rivals Sligo Grammar where Marist claimed the victory with a 17-14 win. Facing Marist in the Semi-Final is Salthill side Coláiste Éinde. After an impressive League campaign where their only loss was to Sligo Grammar by 7 points, they moved on to their Cup matches, once again proving their strength with a win over CBS Roscommon and only a 3 point loss to Garbally before solidifying their well-earned place in the Semi-Final with their win over Coláiste Iognáid.
In the other Semi-Final, having missed out on last season's Semi-Finals, Garbally College will be looking to take their season even further by reaching the Final. The Cup campaign has seen them top their Pool B table with wins over CBS Roscommon and a 15-12 victory over other Semi-Finalists Coláiste Éinde. They will face last year's Cup winners Sligo Grammar who have continued their impressive run with a clean win record in the Cup so far this season. They will no doubt be looking to add their name to the coveted Senior A Boys Schools Cup once again.
It's sure to be two thrilling Semi-Finals with four equally strong and impressive teams taking part, proving that the Cup is anyone's to win.
The winners of next Wednesday's Semi-Finals will face off in the Senior A Boys Schools Cup Final on 19th March in Ballina RFC.
