This Saturday Connacht take on Ulster in the 3rd/4th place playoff of the Vodafone Women's Interprovincial Championship down in Musgrave Park, 2pm k/o.
Despite beating Ulster with a bonus point, Leinster's win over Munster was enough for the Eastern province to reach the final over Connacht. We caught up with centre Shannon Touhey, who spoke about the disappointment of not reaching a final, but now looking to end the campaign on a high.
"Unfortunately results didn't go our way to reach the final but this Connacht team is only growing"
"We're competing and we believe this is only the start of the next chapter for women's rugby in Connacht"
Last Saturday at The Sportsground saw Connacht beat Ulster 29-24 at The Sportsground with tries from Lily Brady, Orla Fenton, Grainne O'Loughlin and two from Ava Ryder. Despite the good win Touhey feels the performance needs to be better for this weekend.
"I think we left a lot of tries out there last Saturday and I think there were a few times our discipline could have been better"
"Coming off the pitch there was a sense of frustration with that performance we gave"
"The first half we didn't get much possession, the possession we did get we scored"
"We know we're far from the finished package but we believe we're getting to new levels and one thing we can't fault from last Saturday is our resilience"
"This team has unbelieveable fight and that is a good Ulster team despite the results they've had so we had to dig deep"
"We always know it will be a battle against them and there's never really anything between us"
Focus now turns to finishing the Championship on a high and Touhey says the squad are looking forward to the game.
"Everyone in the squad is buzzing for Saturday"
"We know Ulster will be hurting from last week which makes them danagerous but we've got to make sure we do our stuff well"
"If we give the performance we know we can we're confident of winning"
"It will be great to end on a win in front of great travelling support because the support up to now has been brilliant"
