Squad visit Erris RFC in Mayo
Following the 28 – 12 preseason win over Munster Rugby on Friday night and the successful 3rd place finish for the 7’s side in the World Club 7’s tournament, a 40-man Connacht squad made up of senior and academy players came together early on Sunday morning to begin the 2.5 hour journey from the Sportsground to Belmullet, Co. Mayo where they would train for the week.

To kick start the off-site training camp, the squad visited local rugby club Erris RFC at their Kilmore Community Pitch in Drum on Sunday where they received a warm welcome from its members and visitors alike.

Mayo-born hooker Dave Heffernan led the squad in games and skills sessions with the attending children at the club. And despite the testing weather conditions, it was a great day out for all followed by a meal kindly hosted by the Mayo club.

The club visit was part of Connacht Rugby’s commitment to bring the professional squad to as many corners of the province as possible throughout the season and follows on from other recent visits to Mayo clubs Westport, Castlebar and Ballinrobe RFC.

A big thank you to all at Erris RFC for their hospitality on the day and to all those who have welcomed the squad to Belmullet this week.

Pat Lam’s men will kick off the 2015/16 season with round 1 of the Guinness PRO12 at home to Newport Gwent Dragons next Friday September 4th. There’s still time to get your Season Ticket and to secure your ticket in the almost-full Clan Terrace for all 11 league and 3 European home games through the season.
