Coaching Courses for the 2026/27 season are in full swing with two Youth Courses having taken place already! 28 coaches have attended so far and are working towards their completion of the Youth Coaching Award and becoming a fully qualified coach.
The IRFU "Youth Coach Course" is an introduction to coaching the 15-a-side game for coaches and helpers with limited experience in rugby. The course is suited to people working with players aged 12+ with an emphasis on player enjoyment and coaching through best practice. The course is designed to develop the coach in the role of ‘Teacher’.
There are two other Youth Courses due to take place over two nights next week:
- Tuam RFC on September 8th and 15th
- Ballina RFC on September 10th and 17th
Entry Criteria:
- Participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age
- Please note coaches aged 16-18 years are restricted to performing in an Assistant Coach role, under the direct supervision and guidance of an Accredited Youth Rugby Coach aged 18+
- Priority (where required) will be given to participants actively involved in coaching youth players.
*If you have previously completed a Youth Coach Course, you do not need to take it again — coaching courses do not expire.
