VACANCY: Chair Spirit of Rugby Committee

The Connacht Rugby Governance & Nominations Committee (GNC) wish to advertise the following voluntary vacancy.

Post Title:  Chair Spirit of Rugby Committee 

Duration:  Initial period of three years with an option to be appointed for a further term of three years based on approval by the Connacht Club & Community Rugby Committee and the terms & conditions set out by Connacht Rugby’s Governance & Nominations Committee  

Background: The Spirit of Rugby is an IRFU initiative which includes practical educational programmes that embody and promote the core values of the game – Respect, Inclusivity, Integrity, Fun and Excellence. These five core values are often referred to as the ‘pillars’ of the Spirit of Rugby. 

Spirit of Rugby aims to support players, coaches, volunteers and parents and its primary purpose is to educate those within the game about their rights and responsibilities on and off the field. 

The programme delivers a series of educational workshops and support for clubs through designated Spirit of Rugby officers, focusing on Safeguarding, Anti-Doping, Disability and Health and Well Being. 

Role and Purpose 

  • Formulate and agree a Spirits of Rugby strategy for Club & Community Rugby in Connacht 
  • Recruit a Spirit of Rugby committee with the required skill sets to support the development and roll out of a Spirits of Rugby strategy. 
  • Draw up a roll out plan to engage all levels of the Club & Community game including Players, Coaches, Referees & Spectators 
  • Agree a monitoring process to measure compliance. 
  • Develop a program to reward best practice by both clubs and volunteers. 
  • Set out annual and longer term KBIs to monitor progress and form the main elements of the Spirt of Rugby Committee report process. 
  • To develop and foster the game for the benefit of our local communities and Connacht Rugby  
  • Support the wider interests of the game within our community and Connacht Rugby 
  • Liaise with IRFU regarding initiatives & programmes 

Time Requirements 

  • Attendance at all Club & Community Committee meetings which shall meet at least 8 times per Season. 
  • Attendance the Bi-Monthly Club & Community Rugby Forum meetings  

The Chair Spirit of Rugby Committee shall have the relevant experience and demonstrates a number of the key competencies listed below:
