'Wegians and Ballinrobe progress in Bank of Ireland Junior Cup

Both Ballinrobe and Galwegians 2nd XV put in dominant displays to progress to the last 16 of this year’s Bank of Ireland Connacht Junior Cup.

Saturday’s game saw Galwegians cross the line for an incredible 10 tries, with Ballina 2nd XV outpowered by their city counterparts. Joseph Agbo was an attacking thorn in the side of Ballina, with Shane O’Brien;s playmaking ability and consistency from the boot another factor.

With a final score of 5-66, ‘Wegians now progress to take on Sligo 2nd XV in the last 16.

Last season’s semi-finalists, Ballinrobe, ran out 52-5 victors over Loughrea in their preliminary round clash.

They crossed the line eight times against a Loughrea side that had little response. The Mayo side were on top from the early stages, building on an early try from Liam Burke which came from a scrum won against the head, before the full back added a second with a pacey break.

Their reward for victory in this tie is a home tie against Ballinasloe.
