Eyre Square in Galway city centre is the place to be next Sunday, July 30, to get up close to the Women’s Rugby World Cup Trophy, test your rugby kicking skills, try a bit of tag rugby and get a quick selfie with Ireland’s Women’s Rugby World Cup ambassador and former Ireland captain Fiona Coghlan.
Galway City Council and the IRFU will bring the trophy to the City to mark the countdown to the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which takes place in Dublin and Belfast from August 9-26. The event, which runs from 12pm to 2pm, will be one of the largest of the 274 held since the trophy started a tour of all 32 counties.
Tickets for the semi-finals and finals stages of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, to take place in Belfast on August 22 and 26, are available from ticketmaster.co.uk. Pool stage tickets are now completely sold-out.
Women’s Rugby World Cup Tournament Director, Garrett Tubridy, said: “We are delighted that Galway City Council have invited the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy tour to Eyre Square so that the people of Galway can get up close to the biggest prize in women’s rugby. The trophy has travelled over 15,000 km so far and we know the event in Galway will be one of the highlights of the tour.
"We will have a fun kicking game set up on the day and former Ireland Women’s captain, Fiona Coghlan, will be on hand to help us thank the people of Galway for getting behind the tournament and their Irish team.”
