Two Play Rugby blitzes took place this week in Galway involving a number of County and City schools. The girls took to the pitches on Tuesday, with players from Holy Trinity Mervue, Scoil Ide and Scoil Mhuire Oranmore. Over 150 girls took part in the 2 hour blitz in Galwegians RFC, and everyone was looking forward to taking part in the next blitz!

Wendy Blitz350The second blitz involved mixed schools, with Scoil Einde, Menlo NS, Garrafrauns NS, Busy Park NS, and Galway Educate Together taking part. 7 pitches, approximately 300 players, and no rain was the perfect mix to a great day in Dangan.

Wendy Hickey, Community Rugby Development Officer, had been working in the schools since the first week in September, and was delighted with the turnout in both blitzes. “The schools have been very enthusiastic with their rugby this year, and were very keen in getting their first blitz underway, with every school asking when the next one was to be scheduled, which is always the response we are looking for! I would like to thank NUIG Dangan and Galwegians for the use of their facilities, we couldn’t run these days without them. I would also like to thank the teachers who worked with me over the past few weeks, and to the referees who made themselves available for the day.”
