Connacht Rugby’s Referees’ Association hosts its pre-season course outline Saturday, August 18 in Athlone.

The all-day session opens at 10.30am at Dubarry Park for housekeeping before an 11am fitness assessment and strength & conditioning presentation. Sideline assessors undergo an assessment refresher also.

The 1pm lunch conludes at 1.30pm for a two-hour presentation to all wishing to be involved in match officiation or assistance this winter coming.

The Association’s Dave Connolly to emphasise that Saturday, August 18, was for all current and prospective whistlers and welcomed any new faces keen to land on board.

“Anyone thinking of taking up refereeing is more than welcome. There is a trainee course in september but it would be no harm for them to attend this course as well to get a flavour,” he said.

“We’re particularly keen for more assessors to get involved and it’s all part and parcel of upping the calibre and standards throughout the province.”

Assessing is an ideal role for retired match officials and those with long associations with the game but perhaps no longer heavily involved.

The August session concludes at 4pm, but rolls over into a pitch’n’putt social get-together and BBQ in Dubarry Park from 6.30pm.

All those wishing to attend may contact Dave Connolly at [email protected], or if seeking more information. Please indicate whether you wish to partake in the festivities from 4pm thereafter.

The schedule may be accessed below.

For planning purposes, please let Dave Connolly know before June 30 if you are:
