Connacht lost for the first time at the Sportsground this season, going down 13 – 16 to Edinburgh in round 13 of the Guinness PRO12 tonight.

In atrocious weather conditions, Pat Lam’s men played with a swirling wind at their back in the opening half but knew they would have an uphill battle after the break when they conceded a 15th minute converted try from the Scottish side.

Outhalf Miah Nikora kicked a penalty each side of a 36th minute penalty try which he converted but Connacht couldn’t get on the score sheet in the second half against the wind and a resolute Edinburgh defence. The visitors secured the win with three successful penalty kicks out of four from in-form scrum half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne. And with the home side down to 14 men in the dying moments, a losing bonus point was the only consolation to be taken from a disappointing night in Galway.
