The senior Connacht squad received a huge welcome when they arrived at Ballinrobe RFC yesterday for a high-intensity training session on the newly developed pitch at the green. Following the hour long session, the attending children were invited on to the pitch for interactive drills and games with the players.

The club visit is part of Connacht Rugby’s commitment to bring the professional squad to all parts of the province. This senior Connacht squad has now visited Sligo RFC and Ballinrobe RFC in the new 2014/15 season.

Despite the intermittent downpours, there was a lot of fun had on the pitch for both the players and the budding young rugby stars. Following photos and autographs, Minister for Sport Michael Ring was on hand to officially declare the new pitch at Ballinrobe open.

The squad were then invited to attend the Family Race Day meeting at the Ballinrobe Racecourse where they were treated to a wonderful meal and enjoyed an evening of top quality racing, including a special race in our honour, the Connacht Rugby Handicap Hurdle.

A huge thank you to all involved at Ballinrobe RFC and Ballinrobe Racecourse for a wonderful welcome and day out.

Photos of the day can be seen on our Facebook page.
