Having qualified for the Elvery’s Connacht Schools Senior Cup semi final, Colaiste Iognaid faced Bandon Grammar in a schools friendly to keep themselves match fit for upcoming games.

Bandon started the better side, dominanting possession and terroritory in the first half. Two penalties gave them a deserved lead, before a period of sustained pressure brought about the game’s first try in the corner, giving the team from Cork an 11-0 lead approaching halftime.

The Bandon fullback stood out, with an impressive counter attacking display, and on the stroke of halftime, he scored a fantastic individual try originating in his own 22. Half time score was Jes 0 Bandon 18.

Jes improved after the break, lead by their outhalf Philip Murphy. They started threatening with the ball out wide, and up front blindside flanker Harry Power was defeating all challengers at the lineout. Nothing came of it though, and the final say went to the Corkonian visitors with a chip and chase try in last play from Bandon’s own outhalf. Final score 25-0.

Colaiste Iognaid will have benefitted from the outing, but will have to dust themselves down for the prospect of travelling to CBS Roscommon in the Elvery’s Connacht Schools Senior Cup semi final.
