When Connacht host Russian side Enisei-STM at the Sportsground on Saturday January 23rd it will have been four weeks since a home game at the Galway venue. Pat Lam’s men will be looking for an all-important win against the Siberians in a bid to secure an April quarter final in this season’s European Challenge Cup.

The Russian are no strangers to the Sportsground having been here to play the Connacht Eagles four times in the past six years and they will be looking for a first win in Galway during what is their maiden season in the European competition.

While currently bottom of pool 1, the newly promoted side pulled off the shock of the European Rugby Challenge Cup this season when they downed former European champions Brive in round 3 at Yug Stadium. Hooker Nazir Gasanov crashed over and fly-half Iuri Kushnarev kicked five points in the historic 10-7 win.

Director of rugby Alexander Pervukhin said: “It was a dream to have these teams associated with Enisei. Now we want to establish ourselves as a European club.”

Tickets for Connacht v Enisei-STM are ON SALE now from tickets.ie, from the Connacht Rugby office at the Sportsground in Galway and from selected Centra & SuperValue stores province-wide.
