CarolStauntonA massive congratulations to Galwegians Flanker Carol Staunton who will be representing Ireland in the opening Six Nation’s game against Italy.
Staunton is currently half way through her second season with Galwegians having transferred from St. Mary’s back in September 2008. Within that short period carol has become an integral cog of the Wegian pack, bringing a wealth of experience and composure that beguiles her young years.
The current Connacht captain returns to the Irish set up following her first cap during the European Championship in the Summer of 2008. Fellow Connacht team mate, fellow flanker and occasional Galwegian player Clare Molloy joins Staunton on the starting Irish 15 to play Italy on the 5th February. Molloy, a native of Galway, is currently studying and playing club rugby in Wales. Alison Miller of Portlaoise RFC and Connacht is also to start, on the wing, for the 6 nations opener.
