The Junior Cup has been affected by weather cancellations, but some pools make for interesting reading. With three pools, the winner of each pool and the best runner up goes through.

Pool A Played Won  Drawn Lost Bonus Points Points
1 Sligo Grammar 2 2 0 0 1 9
2 St. Gerald’s Castlebar 1 1 0 0 1 5
3 Summerhill 1 0 0 1 1 1
4 Gort Community School 2 0 0 2 0 0

Fixtures to Play:

Wednesday 29/01: Gort CS v Summerhill

TBC: St. Geralds v Sligo Grammar

TBC: Summerhill v St. Gerald’s

Gort are hoping for the best runner’s up spot at best, but with so little games played in Pool B due to the weather, it’s hard to know how many points they need. A bonus point win has to be the minimum and that’s very likely to not be enough.

League winners St. Gerald’s play the pool leaders Sligo Grammar this week in Sligo in what could end up deciding the pool. Sligo are well placed to qualify even if they lose, while it’s not impossible for Gerald’s to do the same provided they beat Summerhill in a re-arranged game.

Pool B Played Won  Drawn Lost Bonus Points Points
1 CBS Roscommon 1 1 0 0 0 4
2 St. Muredach’s 0 0 0 0 0 0
3 Clifden Community School 0 0 0 0 0 0
4 St. Joseph’s College 1 0 0 1 0

Given only one game has been played so far, there are next to no conclusions to be made about this pool. Even in the game that has been played, Roscommon surprised league finalists the Bish to win 13-0.

Still all to play for.

Pool C Played Won  Drawn Lost Bonus Points Points
1 Garbally College 2 2 0 0 2 10
2 Colaiste Iognaid 1 1 0 0 0 4
3 Marist College Athlone 2 0 0 1 1 1
4 Rice College 1 0 0 0 0 0

Fixtures:

TBC: Rice v Jes

Tuesday 28/01: Jes v Garbally

Wednesday 29/01: Marist v Rice

Garbally look strong this year, with two bonus point wins already, and look like if they somehow get overtaken for top spot, that they are in pole position for the runners up place. Marist have a huge hole to dig out of if they want to claim the best runners up spot, and even then, will be relying on too many results to go in their favour for it to be likely.

The rearranged game between Rice and Jes will decide which of those will be well placed to launch an attempt at the best runners up spot.

Second Place contenders:

St. Gerald’s (Pool A) 5

Colaiste Iognaid (Pool C) 4

Summerhill (Pool A) 1

Rice College (Pool C) 0
