The EPCR Challenge Cup Round of 16 fixture dates, venues, kick-off times and TV coverage have been confirmed with Connacht playing Benetton on Saturday April 1st.

The game will be played in the Studio di Monigo with kick-off at 3pm Irish time. The game will be shown on EPCR TV.

The winner of the tie will go on to play either Cardiff Rugby or Sale Sharks the following weekend of April 7/8/9.

2023 EPCR Challenge Cup final: Friday 19 May; Aviva Stadium, Dublin

European rugby is back! This weekend we begin our Challenge Cup campaign with a home game against Newcastle Falcons.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s game.

When’s the game?

Kick-off at is at 5.30pm on Saturday 10th December.

What’s the state of play so far?

Connacht come into Saturday’s game on the back on a bonus point win over Benetton at The Sportsground. The win puts Andy Friend’s side back in contention for the top eight places in the BKT URC.

Newcastle currently sit 9th in the Gallagher Premiership having won three of their nine games so far this season. On Saturday they were beaten 39-17 by London Irish.

How’s our recent record against them?

Our last meeting against Newcastle in Europe was the 2015/16 season.

The Connacht management team will announce their squad at 12pm on Friday when it will be named on connachtrugby.ie and the Connacht Rugby social channels.

Viaplay (formerly Premier Sports) will have live TV coverage while Galway Bay FM have live radio commentary.

As previously announced, the pool draws for the 2022/23 Heineken Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup tournaments will be staged at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium next Tuesday (28 June). Both draws will be streamed live on www.epcrugby.com and the event will start with the draw for the EPCR Challenge Cup pools at 12.00 (Irish time) and this will be followed by the Heineken Champions Cup draw at approximately 12.25 / 13.25.

The EPCR Challenge Cup draw, which includes the Johannesburg-based Lions and the Cheetahs from Bloemfontein, will have 20 clubs in three tiers in order to create two pools of 10 – Pool A and Pool B. Clubs from the same league will not play against one another during the pool stage.

The 2022/23 EPCR season will be played over eight weekends with four rounds of matches in the pool stage starting in December, followed by a knockout stage consisting of a Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, culminating in the Dublin finals at the Aviva Stadium on 19 and 20 May 2023.
